Smart folio case ipad pro 116/30/2023 ![]() ![]() The new Smart Folio is clearly Apple’s replacement for the Smart Cover this time around. Instead, Apple has opted for a new Smart Folio alongside the Smart Keyboard Folio. The 2018 iPad Pros, however, mark the first iPads since the original to launch without a traditional Smart Cover. Personally, I’ve always found the aluminum back of the iPad to be plenty durable on its own, making the Smart Cover my ideal choice. The Smart Cover hasn’t been a hit among everyone, though, as some prefer cases that protect the back of the iPad as well. While the Smart Cover material and color options have varied over the years, every iPad since the iPad 2 has launched alongside some sort of Smart Cover option. ![]() This was an issue Apple fixed by wrapping the hinge in cloth. The flaw with the first Smart Cover, however, was that the magnetic hinge was made of metal – which left scuff marks and black spots on the side of the aluminum iPad body. The Smart Cover was an instant favorite of mine, as it offered a minimalistic option for iPad screen protection and attached via magnets, which made it easy to take on and off. This first iteration of the Smart Cover was available in polyurethane and leather, and in five different colors. With the iPad 2, Apple introduced the first-ever Smart Cover. The first iPad case, however, did show how a case could be used to prop the iPad up at various angles. The first-generation iPad case also didn’t offer the auto-wake and sleep functionalities that have since become a staple of Apple’s Smart accessories for the iPad. It featured bulky cutouts for the headphone jack, volume buttons, power button, and 30-pin dock connector, and was challenging to put on and take off. The first-generation iPad was offered alongside a full-body case from Apple, which was a polarizing product to most shoppers. That makes this the first iPad model not to offer a Smart Cover since the original iPad.Īfter spending time with the new iPad Pro Smart Keyboard Folio and Smart Folio, it’s clear they are great in many ways, but I already miss the simplicity of the classic Smart Cover. ![]() Just as notable as the two new folios, however, is that Apple is no longer offering a traditional Smart Cover for the 2018 iPad Pros. You can fold the Smart Folio into different positions to create a stand for reading, viewing, typing, or making FaceTime calls.Alongside the new iPad Pros, Apple launched new Smart Keyboard Folio and Smart Folio cases. It also provides open-to-wake and close-to-sleep functionality. The Smart Folio for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro offers protection for both the front and back. Though if those $50 discounts don’t go far enough for making the in-house offerings affordable enough, Logitech is swooping in to offer its Combo Touch iPad Keyboard Folios from $134.50, delivering new all-time lows in the process. Currently both of Apple’s latest Magic Keyboards are on sale for some of the best prices of the year from $249. Aside from being geared towards the smaller of Apple’s Pro tablets, this Smart Folio delivers all of the same features as above in just a more compact package.Īs far as alternatives go, there are quite a few other discounts out there to pair with your iPad right now. Much like its larger counterpart detailed above, this is also a new 2022 low at $31 under our previous mention from January. Compatible with both 11-inch iPad Pro and iPad Air, this model has dropped down to $36.99 from the original $79 price tag. Also included in the sale today, Woot is also discounting the smaller version of Apple’s Smart Folio. ![]()
